Understanding Cameroon's cocoa harvest seasons, the main crop vs mid-crop dynamics, and when international buyers can get the best prices and quality.

Cameroon Cocoa Harvest Seasons

Cameroon has two cocoa harvest periods that affect supply and pricing.

Main Crop (October - February)

The primary harvest produces 70-75% of annual output. Bean quality is highest during this period with optimal fermentation conditions. Best time for large-volume purchases.

Mid-Crop (April - July)

Secondary harvest producing 25-30% of output. Beans are typically smaller but still good quality. Prices may be slightly higher due to lower supply.

Buying Strategy

  • Q4-Q1: Best prices and quality during main crop
  • Q2-Q3: Use forward contracts to secure supply
  • Year-round: Maintain buffer stock for consistent supply
